The
seminar will be divided into two main sections:
Technical
10th December -
Technical content will cover:

Brief historical review of
geophysical developments during the lifetime of North Sea exploration and
production
Ø
Review of latest
technologies available for marine and land data acquisition including
computer automation of quality control
Ø
A range of processing
developments relating to best available and/or most cost-effective current
methods
Ø
Current applications of
recent R & D in gravity, magnetic and electro-magnetic sounding in
hydrocarbon detection and delineation
Ø
Integration of global and
local geological studies and automated interpretation methods in the E
& P decision process for exploration, field development and reservoir
characterization
11th
December – Based on studies and case histories, the technical content in
the morning will cover:
Ø
Various aspects of
reservoir characterization using the latest technologies
Ø
Some specific applications
of Time Lapse and “Life of Field” monitoring
Ø
Insights into the future of
reservoir characterization with 4-D, 9-C
Business/structural
11th December - After lunch with the Keynote Address by
Ian Vann, the afternoon session will address the ‘Effect of Change of
Business Structure on Technology Capabilities and Development’:
·
Recent Structural Changes
Ø
There were originally 103
main E&P Companies – now consolidated down to 29
Ø
There were originally 18
main full-line Service Providers – now consolidated down to 4
Ø
Many of the E&P
Companies have already outsourced their R&D
Ø
The main Service Providers
are reporting negative cash flow, poor or negative profitability results
and unacceptable risk/reward ratios
Ø
Whereas small niche Service
Providers are reporting a boom era
The
demand is focused on higher resolution and real time answers for the use
of seismic in the Reservoir arena.
But WHO will be able to perform the R&D and Technology Development?
As
well as the structural/business related papers there will also be a panel
session to address this issue on the second day of the conference.
This should provide the venue for some lively and controversial
debates on one of the most vital issues facing our industry.
