Event Information

Exploring the Potential Contribution that Energy from Onshore UK Can Make to an Achievable Transition and Reduce the Risk & Reliance on Imports

The event will not just focus on oil and gas but will explore the all sources of existing and potential energy onshore UK and how these could better contribution to the domestic UK energy demand and form part of realistic and achievable transition to less emissive sources of energy including the historical reliance on coal, and also conventional oil and gas.

Geothermal, wind, nuclear and an increased use of gas from properly managed shale resources could all provide a material contribution to the domestic supply to meet expected energy demand as part of an effective longer term ‘energy plan’ rather than one driven by short term emotion and crisis management.

The proposed talks also include evaluation of the challenges and barriers that could limit the speed of transition and potential solutions to reducing their limiting influences.

It is hoped that this event will not only appeal to the traditional members of the PESGB but also potential new audiences which are involved in the wider spectrum of ‘Energy Extraction and Generation sectors’. In turn, this might also lead to new sectors of membership as the energy transition progresses and our society evolves to “a new range of energy generation”.
