Final Timetable &
Short Abstracts
Non-seismic geophysical methods are today used in all aspects of
hydrocarbon exploration and production. In addition to basin analysis
investigating new play concepts and basin maturation, sub-salt and
sub-basalt imaging, and near surface corrections; such methods are also
being used for reservoir studies, in particular to track the movement of
reservoir fluids, optimize sweep efficiency, identify bypassed pay, and to
predict fluid-related issues such as water breakthrough.
The PESGB will host a seminar on Non-Seismic Geophysics – Modern Methods
and Practice on 6-7 October at The Royal Over-Seas League, London. The
object of the seminar will be to inform geologists, engineers
and non-specialist geophysicists about the modern methodologies and
present case studies, each presentation will be preceded by a summary of
basic principles suitable for the non-specialist geoscientist and
engineer.
The Keynote address will be given by Dirk Smit Head of Exploration R&D and
Novel Technology for Shell. SEG Distinguished Lecturer Len Srnka
(ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company) will present a paper on
Illuminating Reservoirs with Electromagentics, many thanks to the SEG
for supporting the seminar.
Seminar topics
will include:
-
Controlled Source Electro-Magnetics (CSEM)
-
Marine and land magnetotellurics
-
Gravity gradiometry
-
Airborne gravity
-
High resolution aero-magnetic surveying
-
Cross borehole electromagnetics
-
Borehole gravity methods
-
Joint modeling of CSEM, seismic and well-log data
-
Regional and basin studies
