Geophysics Special Interest Group
The Geophysics Special Interest Group of the PESGB exists to promote the understanding and exchange of knowledge within the Society’s membership of all aspects of surface and subsurface geophysical methods including seismic, gravity, magnetic and electromagnetic.
Approximately thirty six percent of the Societies membership are geophysicists. SIG aims to hold where possible an annual seminar to serve these needs and interests. Past events have included;
- 1999 Geophysical Operations Seminar
- 2000 Geophysical Data Processing Seminar
- 2001 Reservoir Geophysics Seminar
- 2003 Geophysics seminar
- 2008 Application of Geophysical Technology in Exploration, Development and Production of Hydrocarbon Resources
- 2009 Non-Seismic Geophysics Seminar - Modern Methods and Practice
- 2011 Amplitudes and Attributes: Uses and Abuses
- 2013 Resolution and Imaging of Complex reservoirs
- 2014 Geophysics Seminar: Securing the Future - Best Practice in Unconventional Reservoir Characterization

With the current low oil prices there is a much greater focus on efficiency, economy and effectiveness of geophysical data acquisition, processing and interpretation. This seminar will discuss ways in which we the geophysics community can actively support our industry at a time of low oil prices. In addition to presentations we will host a series of open round table discussions on selected related topics.
Plans for the PESGB Getting Value from Geophysics: Economy, Efficiency and Effectiveness are now well advanced. There are a few speakers slots which we are working actively to fill – if you wish to present be quick!
What more do we need! Well we need you for an audience!
As a consequence of the industry downturn and in accordance with the results of the Geophysics SIG survey we have chosen a cheaper venue in order to be able to reduce the ticket price to GBP 100 members and GBP 150 non-members. Space is limited to about 100 attendees and the Geophysics SIG events always attracts more than 100 attendees so please ensure you register as soon as possible.
The unofficial and ad hoc organizing committee comprises:
