Speaker Biographies

Peter Taylor
Peter has a background of over 30 years in the offshore energy business in varied roles working for consultancies, contractors, and oil companies.

Peter graduated with a degree in Mining Engineering in 1986 and commenced his career working for an offshore geotechnical site investigation contractor engaged in the data collection, laboratory testing, and engineering associated with offshore oil & gas structures worldwide. Peter then spent several years at Brown & Root designing foundations for a wide variety of offshore structures before moving into various management roles.

Peter has a deep understanding of what is needed to characterise the shallow seabed sediments and detailed experience of the engineering processes required to design and install a wide variety of offshore structures ranging from jack ups, jacket structures, top hole of wells and offshore wind turbine foundations.

Richard Orren
Richard graduated in BSc Geophysical Sciences at Southampton University in the late seventies. He worked at first in seismic processing with Horizon Exploration then moved into engineering geophysics with Wimpol. He worked in the N Sea, Persian Gulf and Egypt for O&G and other engineering projects, and globally in the cables sector. In the mid 90s Wimpol joined Fugro, where Richard had the role of Geophysics Manager. In early 2000s he moved into consultancy, as Geoscience Director with Floyd and Associates, which became part of Senergy in 2008 just as renewables work was commencing. He finally took up the role of VP of Survey & GeoEngineering with Lloyds Register, from which full-time position he retired in early 2019.

Richard recommenced work as part time Principal Geophysical Advisor with consultants Inosys in 2020, where he currently provides input and advice. Also Richard is still a member of the Offshore Site Investigation and Geotechnics committee of the Society for Underwater Technology, where he is also a member of a sub-committee working on updating the Renewables Survey guidelines.
