Topic: Benefits from modern re-processing of shallow, ultra-high resolution seismic data (for wind turbine placement) – a case study.

Abstract

Shallow, ultra high-resolution seismic surveying is clearly an essential step in the development and planning process for offshore windfarms, and other marine installations.  The data is typically acquired with Sparker sources and hydrophone receivers on short single cables. The acquisition methods employed lend themselves to speed, and efficiency in acquisition. In this case study, recent developments in seismic data processing methods have been applied to a legacy dataset and significant uplift in resolution can be seen. The improvements are mainly achieved through forensic data analysis combined with dynamic de-ghosting, improved static corrections and optimal multiple attenuation. Improvements to existing datasets may mean that a survey does not need to be re-acquired, therefore saving both costs and time.
