Event Information

Speaker: Alan Foum
Topic: An Introduction to Geodesy

Abstract

Using coordinate systems effectively is a must. Using the wrong Coordinate Reference System can result in wells being drilled in the wrong place or to misinterpretation of mixed geological data leading to bad decisions costing   millions. In order to avoid these errors a basic understanding of geodesy is needed

This lecture will cover the basic principles of geodesy including the elements of a CRS (projections, datums and spheroids) and an overview of their applications.
