Course Description

Overview:

This is a course on cased hole data acquisition and interpretations. The course covers the following topics:

  • Production logging in single phase and two-phase flow regimes.
  • Reservoir monitoring behind casing
  • Well Integrity: leak detection and crossflow between zones caused by uneven depletions.

No prior knowledge or expertise in cased hole is necessary.

Session 1 | Tool Conveyance in cased holes
Facilitator: Mohamed Watfa
Date: Tuesday 16th March 2021
6:00pm – 8:00pm

  • Depth Control
  • Standard cased hole logging tools. Pressure, temperature, spinner, holdups, callipers.
  • Slippage velocities
  • Measurement of fluid velocities: Full-bore Spinner, micro-spinners, oxygen activation, gas bubble flow.

Session 2 | Production Logging
Facilitator: Mohamed Watfa
Date: Thursday 18th March 2021
6:00pm – 8:00pm

  • Spinner Calibrations: Why and how?
  • Holdup measurements
  • Production logging: single phase
  • Production logging two phase

Session 3 | Reservoir Monitoring
Facilitator: Mohamed Watfa
Date: Tuesday 23rd March 2021
6:00pm – 8:00pm

  • Pulsed Neutron Logging (PNL) theory: obtaining capture mode (sigma) and inelastic mode (Carbon/Oxygen; C/O) data.
  • Estimating water saturations using capture mode (sigma).
  • Estimating water saturation using C/O data.

Session 4 | Well Integrity
Facilitator: Mohamed Watfa
Date: Thursday 25th March 2021
6:00pm – 8:00pm

  • Leak detection
  • Spinner applications to estimate crossflow and the productivity index for any defined interval.
  • Water and gas conning.
