Abstract

The Southern Gas Basin – A Fresh Set of Eyes
Andrew Nunn, Cluff Natural Resources

Many plays and prospects in the UKCS Southern Gas Basin have been written off following apparently unexplainable exploration failures in the 1980’s & 90’s or in some cases before exploration has even begun despite the same plays producing elsewhere in the basin.  Over the last few years Cluff has developed a portfolio of exploration assets in underexplored blocks centred around newly developed infrastructure in the SNS.  Our core acreage across Quads 42 and 43 is situated between Breagh gasfield to the West, the depleted Esmond gasfield and the recent Pegasus discovery to the East and proven gas in the Crosgan prospect to the North and a source kitchen immediately to the South and yet despite covering approximately 1,200km2 of the Carboniferous fairway only 2 wells penetrate the BPU.

With gas proven in the Bunter, the Zechstein and the Carboniferous opportunities abound.
