PESGB Annual General Meeting 2021 NEW DATE (Virtual Event)

Our AGM has been rescheduled for the 9^th of Dec at 6.00pm. This is significantly later this year than we would have liked but please join me to review 2021.

The last few years have been very challenging for the PESGB; firstly, the oil price crash of late 2018, and secondly, the COVID-19 global pandemic which for a short time resulted in WTI trading below zero.  The resulting industry cost savings have had a long-term impact on the way the industry interacts with Associations and Societies. The COVID-19 global pandemic also severely limited in person interaction, which had a further negative impact on the PESGB as its main income after membership comes from organising events.

You will see from the 2020 accounts that we matched the cuts in our income with cuts in our expenditure, including closing the London office in November 2020 and making around 20% of the team roles redundant.  The tight cost controls that were put in place in 2020 continue today.  However, we have adapted as illustrated by us running our first entirely virtual event in later 2020 and reinventing PETEX for 2021.

With COP26 still large in the rear-view mirror our industry is at the beginning of the Energy Transition.  Consequently, this year we will hold an indicative vote on changing the Charitable Objects and Name of the Society.   It is the mission of the PESGB to be relevant, useful, and beneficial to members at every stage of their careers which will be better served if we can embrace a wider energy industry alongside our petroleum roots.  More information of the proposed changes to the Charitable Objects and the Name of the Society can be found on the website.  This is not a binding vote but a chance for the PESGB to explore how the members feel about broadening the reach of their Society. For those that cannot attend there will be an opportunity to vote and have your say after the AGM.
