Topic: The evolving world of decarbonisation

Abstract
Decarbonisation is a fundamental pillar of corporate Net Zero. There are many driving forces, from regulation to voluntary commitments, to pivots in business strategy.

In this talk we will explore some of the mechanisms that are supporting/forcing decarbonisation. We will touch on topics ranging societal carbon costs, to carbon credits and offset markets, to tax systems and direct subsidies.

Paul Chernik, General Manager, ERC Evolution

Paul is the General Manager of ERC Evolution, the ERCE group company dedicated to the Energy Transition. He is also an Executive Director of the ERCE Group.

Over the course of his career Paul has engaged in a wide range of roles, with an eye to how energy companies engage with financial markets and stakeholders. His career started in Calgary, Canada at Jacobs and later at GLJ Petroleum Consultants. After moving to London he worked in the City with Macquarie-Tristone, before joining ERCE in 2010.

Paul is a UK Competent Person and has been the signing authority for independent reports for IPOs, Bond issues, RBLs and annual filings across global markets.

He is also an certified ISO 14064 GHG Emissions verifier and validator. Recently he has been working with companies responding to changing market demands for climate disclosure and investing in the decarbonisation of energy supplies.

Paul is a P.Eng, registered with APEGA, a member of the SPEE and the AIEN. He holds an MBA from the University of Cambridge and MSc and BSc degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and University of Calgary respectively.
