Topic: Redevelopment of the Buchan Field

Abstract

Jersey Oil and Gas is redeveloping the Buchan Field as part of the Greater Buchan Area Development. Extensive subsurface analysis and reservoir modelling has resulted in yet to produce resources in the range of 89 to 180 MMstb. JOG’s proposed development is a fully electrified facility with a carbon footprint of less than one tonne per barrel of produced oil. High resolution broadband seismic data acquired in 2018 by PGS has been used to interpret the structural evolution and configuration of the Buchan Field resulting in a tabular reservoir accumulation with extremely low angle to reverse faults influencing the structural development of the Buchan Field. Our analysis demonstrates that field has behaved like a conventional clastic reservoir with enhanced matrix permeability provided by a pervasive fracture network which is controlled by the fault positioning. Interpretation of production logging data and well histories indicate bottoms up historical production of water from an active aquifer. Redevelopment of the field is supported by voidage replacement through water injection into the original aquifer/swept zones. Deviated production wells with 500m of perforated liners and dual-ESPs are planned at crestal locations of the field where a dry oil column in excess of 225m remains.
