Abstract
Basin Development, Architecture and Temperature Regimes
Duncan MacGregor, MacGeology
This is a high level day course that aims to educate participants in the basics of basin analysis as applied to the prediction of petroleum system elements. The course will review the various types of basin worldwide and their relative prospectivity, will detail the physics controlling the formation of these basins and crucially, consider the implications of the various types of subsidence driver on temperature regime. It will then discuss the techniques and work flows used to analyse basin fill, including sequence and seismic stratigraphy. Learnings will be reinforced in dispersed short exercises.
The course is suitable for explorationists at all levels, both as an introductory and refresher course. It is particularly applicable for those involved in frontier settings or those who have any input to or use the results of basin modelling.
Please note lunch is not included in the cost of registration, however refreshments will be provided: mid-morning and mid-afternoon tea, coffee and biscuits.
