Event Information

The recent publication of the Climate Action Plan, with commitments on renewable energy, heating and transport, has begun a debate about how Ireland will manage the transition to a low carbon economy. Businesses and policy makers are beginning to get a sense of the scale of the challenge involved and also the complexity of the issue at hand.
As an island economy, now more isolated than ever post Brexit, Ireland faces particular challenges in maintaining a secure energy supply, maintaining transport connectivity to the rest of the world, while reducing our emissions.
It is clear that there is a need for new solutions and new ways of thinking. There is also a need for frank discussion regarding the real solutions that are achievable and their associated timelines. SPE is the largest individual-member organisation worldwide serving petroleum engineers & scientists in the upstream oil and gas industry These are the people who have for many years been responsible for delivering the bulk of the worlds energy supply. Looking to the future our members will have a key role in helping the meet the worlds energy demand in a safe, environmentally responsible and sustainable manner as well as helping make emerging low-carbon technologies, such as Carbon Capture and Storage, a reality.
Each year we host a major lecture, which is attended by the leading figures in Ireland’s energy community. These events have normally considered the role of oil and gas in our energy supply. This year, we want to look to a broader discussion about the investment choices we face in delivering the supply needed to meet Ireland’s increasing energy demand while lowering its carbon emissions in the decades ahead.
The keynote speaker at the event will be Neal Anderson, President and CEO of Wood Mackenzie, a company regarded by many as the world’s leading energy analysts. His presentation will be followed by a panel discussion on Ireland’s energy future.
The event will be preceded by networking from 6pm and will be followed by informal drinks. We would expect the formal element of the evening to conclude by 8.30pm at the latest. I am happy to provide any further information you require in relation to the event. I hope that you are able to join us on the evening.

‘Investing in Our Energy Future’ will be the focus of the annual SPE Ireland and PESGB Industry Evening 2020 on 25th March, with leading policymakers, investment and research consultants and other energy stakeholders gathering to start the conversation.
