Summary:

RPS are pleased to present an overview of the potential effects of sub-sea noise from oil and gas activities on marine life, drawing on the latest research and guidelines on noise modelling approaches and marine mammal injury thresholds. The lecture will look at the available mitigation solutions including a comparison between the traditional guidelines and potential new approaches, such as Acoustic Deterrent Devices (ADD).

About the presenter:

Simon Stephenson – Technical Director, Acoustics, RPS.

Simon is an expert in underwater noise modelling, mitigation and assessment. He has worked extensively in the offshore oil and gas industry for over 20 years and has provided advice to operators, developers and regulators alike.  He is highly experienced in assessing the impacts of underwater noise from projects on marine mammals, fish and other aquatic species and has undertaken research studies in relation to marine mammal mitigation techniques.
