Slope systems where contemporaneous structural activity, through faults, shale or salt diapirs, has created variable sea floor topography inevitably results in a high complexity distribution of reservoir facies. Although there is a degree of uniqueness in each slope system there are a number of recurring seismic scale depositional elements which are critical to understanding reservoir distribution and type. These are ‘sheet sands’, channel complex systems, and mass transport complexes.

For each of these key facies we will examine their characteristics, variability, common themes and a systematic approach to interpreting them on seismic data.
