Well Decommissioning: Graveyard shift ?

There is plenty of discussion in the North Sea about decommissioning these days – depressing stuff for those of us wanting to find new fields and develop them.

Putting a reservoir to bed has its moments, however, and this talk describes how wells are decommissioned and the importance of fully understanding the subsurface environment, if we are to get it right.  With significant risks and uncertainties involved, how should we manage the decommissioning process to ensure we permanently seal our wells for the lowest possible price?

Our speaker will describe current thinking in well decommissioning and pinpoint some of the challenges ahead – he will touch on some of the technologies being developed and comment on a developing area of expertise – end of well life management.
