Editorial

It is a number of months since I have written this page to the membership and it seems to be logical to follow my colleagues in the office, who as members will know are the hub of the Society and ensure that your Council can function efficiently. In this light I would like to welcome a new voice to the office, Jennie Beck who joined the team at the start of October and is with us initially for three months bringing her marketing and charity expertise and experience to the Society.
I am writing this as nominations for the Council elections for 2003-2004 close so I would start with an appeal for members to participate in the election by completing and returning the ballot paper that is a loose insert in this month ‘s newsletter.
Should your ballot paper be missing please contact the office (jennie@pesgb.org.uk) as soon as possible. The closing date for return of completed ballot papers is noon on Friday December 6th; the results will be announced during the course of the final day of PETEX, December 12th. The role of CounciI is to run the Society for the benefit of the members and in accordance with members’ wishes – in order for this to happen we need the participation of members through the democratic process!
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO CONSIDER THE CANDIDATES AND VOTE. The 2002 Council would like to see more than ten per cent of the members voting, as has not happened in recent years!
Moving to PETEX, we again publish the programme and booking form in the Newsletter. There is little to say other than “it is the biggest and best” yet. Members can save time, money and effort by prebooking. With my fellow Council Members, I look forward to seeing you at some point during the “hectic three days” in December.
Before and after PETEX are the parties and fund raising activities for the Society.
Aberdeen as usual takes the lead with a Christmas Party on December 3rd following the Evening Lecture, in the Jarvis Hotel. A booking form is published in this Newsletter and tickets are also available at the November meeting in Aberdeen. Our thanks to Core Lab and HRH for their sponsorship of the Aberdeen party.
The President’s Evening this year is on January 30th, in the New Connaught Rooms at Covent Garden. Rising costs mean that the twenty-seven pound tickets now include as much food as you can eat together with four drinks. A cash bar will be in operation for after you have used your tokens! Companies and organisations wishing to sponsor the President’s Evening should contact Gail at the Office. The booking form is available from the website and is also published in this Newsletter.
