As many of you know, the UKCS has entered a phase of decommissioning oil and gas fields and as such core data is being considered redundant in a number of cases. Before these valuable cores are being destroyed, I’d like to notify all of you that companies are often willing to donate core to individuals provided it’s being used on a non-commercial basis.

Fairfield Energy – the company decommissioning the Dunlin Field – currently has quite a bit of core that is marked to be disposed of in the near future. Should you wish to acquire some half cut core or resinated slabs and you’re willing to take care of collection from Iron Mountain yourself, please get in touch with Kathy Strachan at Fairfield Energy (Kathy.Strachan@fairfield-energy.com). Please be aware that the minimum amount that can be taken is a single core box consisting of 5-8 ft of core.
