AFRICA E&P CONFERENCE KEYNOTE: Cairn on new Senegal discoveries

Mon 29 June 2015

Category: Africa, Conference, London

In 2014 Cairn Energy completed two significant new deepwater discoveries in offshore Senegal that have opened up the West African margin between Senegal and Sierra Leone; FAN-1 and SNE-1.

These discoveries should act to significantly enhance the economy of Senegal in the long term. Preliminary analysis of the FAN-1 well indicates 29m of net oil bearing reservoir in Cretaceous sandstones whilst initial analysis of the SNE-1 well suggests a 95m gross oil bearing column and reserves of 330 mmbbls.

Based on early evaluation, a programme of three firm and three optional exploration and appraisal wells is envisaged to begin this year.
