Meet the 2021 PESGB Council Election Nominees – Secretary – Colin Saunders
I graduated from Southampton University with a Masters in Geology that was focused on the isotope geochemistry of volcanoes, not the usual starting point for a career in the oil and gas industry. However, after graduation I returned home to London and joined Deloitte as a North Africa Analyst, which is where I was first introduced to and became a member of the PESGB. I also learnt a lot about how the industry works and started my interest in African petroleum geology. I then joined Neftex, which is now part of Halliburton, and truly submerged myself into African, in particular Sub-Saharan African, petroleum geology, which is one of the many reasons I have stayed an avid member of the PESGB over the last 13 years.
I feel now is a good time to give something back to the society and community that has provided me with so much insight and support over the years. I am keen to support our members and the society to have a strong voice in the energy transition discussions. Showing how we are both part of the ongoing supply of hydrocarbons and how we can be part of the transition to a lower carbon future. It would be my pleasure to support the PESGB as Secretary and help the society and its members through these ever changing times.
