Aidan graduated with a B.Sc in Geology from Imperial College and commenced working in the UK offshore oil industry in the 1980s.  Based first in London and from 1999 in Aberdeen, he worked for companies such as Sun Oil and Kerr-McGee in a wide variety of subsurface roles, becoming Subsurface Manager on a number of Central North Sea field developments such as Gryphon and Janice.  His experience ranges from licence round application and exploration prospect generation to mature field cellular modelling, reservoir management and infill drilling.

Aidan moved onto the commercial side of the industry in 2000 while maintaining his strong interest in the subsurface.  He worked in Perth, Western Australia 2004-2012 for Woodside and Apache, and was transferred by Apache to Calgary, Canada in 2012 to work on opportunities ranging from unconventional reservoir development to a major west coast LNG project.  He returned to the UK early in 2019 since which time he has been consulting both for Gaffney Cline and independently.  He lives in SE England.

Since earlier this year Aidan has been co-chair of the Energy Transition Special Interest Group of the PESGB.  Aidan sees the petroleum industry’s management of the Energy Transition as critical to the industry’s future, to the relevance of the PESGB and to the value of the Society to its members.  At the same time, based on his own long membership of the PESGB, Aidan appreciates more broadly the importance to the membership – both in learning and in social and networking terms – of the Vice President’s responsibilities, such as the Society’s lecture programme and outreach initiatives.
