The PESGB YP annual visit to the University of Derby occurred for the 7th year this February organized by course director Dorothy Satterfield.  It was a rewarding experience giving the students on the MSc in Applied Petroleum Geosciences Program an opportunity to receive feedback on their cover letters and CV as well as conducting a mock interview with a HR representative from the University and myself, the PESGB YP member. This year I also had the opportunity to meet undergraduates that were still considering whether or not to join the Masters course and have a question and answer session.  This gave the opportunity to have a frank discussion that touched on everything from the down turn, the skills a master’s degree and work experience in the oil industry gives you, the day to day variation and job satisfaction a life in the oil industry brings and also working in a male dominated environment.  Overall this experience was rewarding and useful to both the PESGB YP professional and the students.
