Thank you to all those who joined us for spring edition of the Joint PESGB and AAPG networking event. Hardened YP geologists, geophysicists and researchers braved the cold wintery tail of the ‘Beast from the East’ and met at the Buckingham Arms near Victoria on 7th March. Spirits were high with many a story of snow days and industry experiences of old, all enjoyed with drink in hand. The return fixture will be held in the autumn, stay tuned!

In March the Aberdeen pub quiz was back by popular demand, held at the Albyn. Teams battled against each other in 6 rounds, starting with a tricky picture round which had teams identify the UK oil and gas fields from their field outlines and pictures of platforms. Other rounds included the Popular Culture, Local Aberdeen Knowledge and the Geology Anagrams round; “I THE MEAT” is, of course, Hematite. The competition was close throughout with teams fighting to not go home with the wooden spoon. Baz’s Boiz stormed home to victory after correctly guessing the “Which Field Am I?” after only one round and gaining the maximum of 10 bonus points. The quiz ended with a round of head and tails, revealing that the majority of the room incorrectly thought that Theresa May is taller than Boris Johnson- she’s not; Boris is 3 cm taller!
