Rocks for Rookies: Bringing Geology to the Masses

Over the past 52 years, the PESGB have run over 200 field trips to destinations from Svalbard to South Africa. A recent survey of our Membership revealed that field trips represent the most popular genre of event that we run as a Society. Providing a forum for networking in a relaxed, informal, yet educational environment; field trips embody much of what first inspired the love of geology in many of our members – the outdoors, rocks, camaraderie, maybe the odd beverage – which is important now, more than ever, amidst all the doom and gloom!

To date, these excursions have been a member-only benefit. However in 2017, in line with our charitable objective, the Society is looking to deliver a more comprehensive outreach programme which will culminate in GEOLiteracy Month. As part of this initiative, we are looking to run a field trip for the wider community with the aim of educating the public in an exciting and engaging way about a subject that our members are so passionate and enthusiastic about. We would like to provide our members with the opportunity to share this experience with friends, family, partners, children or colleagues.

So, inspire us to inspire the curious and uninitiated, the ‘GeoNovices’ amongst us…
Help us bring geology to life. What destinations would you like to share with your nearest and dearest, to enthuse in them a love for geology?
